Still, I entirely understand why long time fans of one of PC gaming’s most prized titles are upset that Diablo is getting the Command and Conquer/Dungeon Keeper/Lineage/Everything You’ve Ever Known and Loved Eventually treatment. I’m also guilty of dumping an embarrassing amount of time and money into Hearthstone, so it’s not like Blizzard hasn’t made a decent mobile game before. Make the game more accessible through mobile, and it’s not like clicking demons and tapping on them is a fundamentally different concept. So when I heard that the game was going mobile, that’s the level of expectation I was coming in with. I played through, got through to Nightmare mode, and called it a day. I thought Diablo 3 was just fine, but I’m past the point in my life where I can spend even a gerbil’s lifespan clicking on endless waves of increasingly large healthbars. Like most kids my age, I played several dogs lives worth of time playing Diablo 2 with my buddies. But why would they care? They can always go get a comparable job somewhere else.Personally, I don’t much give a Baal sized shit if Blizzard decides to take their newest iteration of a decades old stale franchise and put it on my pocket computer. Being laughed at during Blizzcon was just a cost of running a business.ĭoes this bode well for the company or for the future of Diablo? Of course not. Because it’s a mobile game and that’s where the money is. And managers care mostly about their stock options which will probably go up close to Immortal’s release. Developers care much more about the code and coffee quality then about players experience. It’s just a well payed corporate job for them. The fact that they agreed to work on a mobile Diablo game in the first place tells you all you need to know how much they care. They realize how god awful it is, decided to port the code base to PC, and announce diablo IV the following year. Thus far they just had it running on an android emulator in a PC. I bet you when blizzard got booed on stage for annoucing D2 immortal, the devs went home and try the demo on their phones for the first time.
